Why they called us.
Imogen had just bought the house, and the staircase was the thing standing between her and every other plan for it — tired, worn and not worth saving. It had to be the first job, because everything else moves up and down it.
The scope: strip out the old staircase, open up the structure where needed, build and fit a new timber staircase with new treads, re-frame the landing, and finish carpeted — ready to be walked on hard for decades.
Fixed quote at £2,000. Three days. In and out before the decorating even started.
What we did.
Three days, old stairs to new:
- Strip-out of the old staircase and balustrade
- Structural opening-up where the new flight needed better bearing
- New timber staircase built and installed
- New treads fitted through to the landing
- Landing stud framing re-built and boarded
- Understairs made good and usable
- Carpet fitted over the new flight and landing
- Clean-down and walkthrough
Three days after the keys, the house had its spine back.
“Bought the house and the first job was the stairs. The guys were in and out so quickly — the end result was brilliant, I highly recommend.”Imogen · Bolton · Google review

For the discerning homeowner.
What we actually built into this project.
A staircase is structure, not joinery decoration
A domestic flight carries serious loads at an exact geometry — rise, going and headroom are all regulated. The structural opening-up stage made sure the new flight bears properly rather than borrowing strength from what the old one left behind.
Timber built to fit the house
The new timber staircase was built for this stairwell — not a catalogue flight persuaded into the gap. That's why the treads meet the landing cleanly and nothing creaks on day one (or year ten).
Landing framed as part of the job
The landing above was re-framed in stud and boarded as part of the same three days — one continuous piece of work rather than a stair job and a landing job that meet awkwardly in the middle.
Three founders. No subcontractors.
Liam, Ryan and Paul on every job.

Liam
Led the project from survey to handover, and covered every electrical requirement in-house — certified, no third-party spark.

Ryan
Time-served bricklayer. Ran the structural and preparation stages that decide how good the finish can be.

Paul
Every cut, fit and finish on the joinery side — done on site, made to fit this house rather than the average one.

Bolton's terraces are full of original staircases at the century mark — many are fine, some are past it. Replacement is quicker and less disruptive than most homeowners expect, and it's often the smartest first job in a renovation, exactly as Imogen treated it.

Questions homeowners ask about projects like this.
How much does a staircase replacement cost in Bolton?
This full replacement — strip-out, new timber staircase, re-framed landing, carpeted finish — came in at £2,000 fixed. Most straight-flight replacements around Bolton land in the £1,800–£3,500 range; turns, winders and bespoke balustrades add to that.
How long does replacing a staircase take?
Three days here. Typical range is 2–4 days — and you're never without access upstairs overnight; we sequence the strip-out and install within the same day.
Do building regulations apply to a new staircase?
Yes — rise, going, headroom and handrails are all regulated, and a replacement flight has to comply. Ours are built to the regs and we handle the compliance as part of the job.
Should the stairs be done before or after decorating?
Before, almost always — it's the most traffic-heavy structural job in the house. Imogen made it the first job after buying and that's the order we'd recommend to anyone renovating.
