Landscaping · Greater Manchester, Lancashire & Cheshire

North West landscaping: gardens built properly, from the sub-base up.

No two gardens are the same — and that's exactly why we love this work. Flagging and Indian stone, fencing, lawns, decking, full transformations: one family crew, every trade in-house, and a fixed written quote — usually the same day we survey.

The variety is the point

Every garden is a different puzzle. We build them all.

One week it's an overgrown plot in Preston that becomes a crisp flagged garden with a white stone border in two days. The next it's a full transformation in Tottington — two patios, a new lawn, fencing and a purpose-built sleeper allotment in six. That variety is exactly why we love landscaping, and it's why we never do it by template.

What never changes is how we build: the ground first. Excavation to a true level, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base, proper falls for drainage — then the surface you actually see. It's the part of the job cheap quotes skip, and the reason our gardens still look right years later.

Every trade is in-house — groundworks, paving, joinery, fencing — with Liam, Ryan or Paul on site. And every project is documented: real photos, real spec, real tonnage, real prices, published as case studies you can read before you hire us.

Same-day quotes Promise

We survey your garden free, talk through ideas on the spot, and aim to have a fixed, itemised written quote back to you the same day we visit. No ballparks, no waiting a fortnight.

Built on the sub-base Spec

Compacted MOT Type 1, screeded grano or sand, proper falls — we publish the tonnage we cart in and out of real jobs because the ground is the difference between two years and twenty.

One crew, start to finish Family-run

No subcontractors. The crew that digs the ground lays the stone, builds the fence and hands the garden back finished — backed by our aftercare commitment.

What we build

Flagging & Indian Stone Paving

The build

Paving, fencing, lawns, timber work — one in-house crew start to finish, with the founders on site and your garden left tidy every night.

Walkthrough & aftercare

We walk the finished garden with you, photograph it for the case-study record, and back the work with our aftercare commitment.

Why Wolsten

The three of us in every garden.

Liam, Ryan and Paul — plus trusted regulars like Kieran and Steve when the job needs more hands.

🌱

Groundwork obsessives

Ryan leads the digs, the sub-bases and the levels. If you read our case studies you'll notice we talk about tonnage more than turf — because that's where gardens are won and lost.

🪓

Finish carpentry on tap

Paul — master joiner — handles the fencing, sleeper work, decking frames and the finishing details that make a garden feel built rather than assembled.

📋

Quoted same day, fixed in writing

Liam surveys, quotes and stays your point of contact throughout. Free survey, fixed itemised quote usually the same day, no deposit — and an aftercare commitment when we're done.

FAQ

Landscaping — straight answers.

How much does landscaping cost?

It genuinely varies — which is why we publish real numbers instead of vague ranges. Recent documented projects: a full flagged garden in Preston for £1,700 (2 days), an Indian stone patio in Altrincham for £3,100 (3 days), and a complete transformation in Tottington — two patios, lawn, fencing, sleeper allotment — for £6,900 (6 days). Your garden gets a free survey and a fixed itemised quote, usually the same day.

How long do landscaping projects take?

Most of our garden projects run 2-6 days on site: simple flagging around 2 days, patios around 3, and full multi-element transformations around 6. We agree the programme before we start and stick to it.

Do you take away the waste?

Always — it's in the quote. Clearance, excavation spoil, old fencing and rubble all leave in our skips or wagons. On the Tottington job alone we cleared an abandoned plot full of rubble before a single flag went down.

Indian stone or concrete flags — which should I choose?

Concrete flags give a clean, uniform, budget-friendly finish — the Preston garden is a great example. Indian sandstone costs more but brings natural variation and a premium feel, laid with mortar joints like our Altrincham patio. Both get the identical sub-base underneath; we'll show you samples of each at the survey.

Will my new patio or lawn drain properly?

Yes — drainage is designed in, not hoped for. Surfaces are laid to falls, sub-bases are free-draining compacted MOT Type 1, and where a garden holds water we deal with it at ground level before any surface goes down.

Do you take on small jobs?

Happily. A fence repair, a small path, a tired corner of the garden — small jobs done well are how most of our long-term customers found us. No job too small to quote.

Can you help with design and ideas?

That's our favourite part. Tell us how you want to use the garden — kids, dogs, entertaining, growing — and we'll sketch honest options at the survey, including what we'd do if it were ours and what we'd skip to protect your budget.
