How much does a porcelain patio cost?
The cost of a new porcelain patio comes down to three things: the size of the area, the tile you choose, and the groundwork needed underneath. Our calculator gives a realistic starting figure for all of it, fully supplied and installed across Bolton and the North West.
As a guide, porcelain paving supplied and fully fitted starts from around £110 per square metre on a prepared sub-base, rising to roughly £170–£200 per square metre when we excavate and build a brand-new MOT Type 1 sub-base for you. Premium large-format tiles and intricate layouts sit at the higher end.

Porcelain patio calculator FAQs
How much does a porcelain patio cost?
Supplied and fitted, porcelain paving typically starts from around £110 per square metre on a prepared sub-base, or roughly £170–£200 per square metre if we excavate and build a new MOT Type 1 sub-base. Use the calculator above for an instant guide price based on your exact size and finish.
Is porcelain better than natural stone or Indian sandstone?
Porcelain is denser, frost-proof and virtually non-porous, so it resists stains, algae and fading far better than natural stone and needs almost no maintenance. It costs a little more upfront and must be laid on a full mortar bed with a primer, but it stays looking new for years.
Do I need a new sub-base?
Only if you don’t already have a solid, compacted base. Our calculator prices both ways — leave the sub-base box unticked if yours is ready, or tick it and we’ll include excavation, spoil removal and a new compacted MOT Type 1 base with the correct drainage falls.
How long does it take to lay a porcelain patio?
As a guide, a two-fitter team lays around 8–9 m² per day on a full mortar bed including priming every tile, so a typical 50 m² patio takes about 6 working days. Building a new sub-base adds a few days on top.
Does the price include drainage or ACO channels?
No. The calculator is a very accurate guide for the patio build itself. ACO channel drainage and any land drains are priced separately, as they depend on your site, levels and where surface water needs to go. We’ll assess this at your free survey.
Do you install porcelain across Bolton and the North West?
Yes. Wolsten is a family-run team based in Westhoughton, Bolton, installing porcelain patios across Bolton, Wigan, Manchester, Bury, Leigh and the wider North West.
