The brief

Why they called us.

Margaret's bathroom had reached the point where cleaning it harder wasn't going to help — dated suite, tired tiling, and a layout that wasted the space. She wanted a complete refit: everything out, everything new.

The plan: strip the room back to bare walls, re-run the first-fix plumbing for a better layout, then rebuild — new shower tray and enclosure finished in shower panels (a clean, grout-free choice), with the rest of the room decorated in Farrow & Ball, plus a new vanity unit, WC and heated towel rail.

One thing mattered to Margaret as much as the finish: the house staying liveable during the work. Fixed quote at £3,500, four days, and a proper clean-down at the end of every day.

The build

What we did.

Four days, strip-out to silicone:

  • Full strip-out — old suite, tiles and fittings away in day one
  • Walls taken back to bare plaster ready for preparation
  • First-fix plumbing re-run for the new layout
  • New shower tray installed and levelled
  • Shower panels fitted to the enclosure — waterproof and grout-free
  • Shower enclosure fitted and sealed
  • Walls decorated in Farrow & Ball paint
  • New vanity unit, WC and heated towel rail installed
  • Second fix, silicone, deep clean and walkthrough

Margaret's review below says more than we could.

Technical detail

For the discerning homeowner.

What we actually built into this project.

Strip-out to bare walls — no papering over problems

It's tempting to skim over old surfaces and call it a refit. We took the room back to bare walls so every new finish went onto sound, prepared substrate — the difference between a bathroom that looks good for two years and one that stays right for twenty.

Shower panels over tiles — a deliberate choice

Margaret chose shower panels for the enclosure: fully waterproof, no grout lines to discolour or re-seal, and quicker to keep clean. Paired with Farrow & Ball on the walls, the room gets a finish that wears well and wipes down easily.

Layout re-plumbed at first fix

Rather than plumb the new suite where the old one happened to be, we re-ran the first fix to suit the better layout — which is why the finished room feels bigger without the walls moving.

Daily clean-down — a liveable house throughout

A four-day refit shouldn't mean four days of dust through the house. Floor protection down every morning, tools and debris out every evening. It's in the review because we treat it as part of the job, not a favour.

Bolton · Greater Manchester

Bolton's semis and terraces mostly carry family bathrooms that work hard for decades between refits — so when they're done, they're worth doing properly. A full rip-out and refit at this level is one of the most-requested jobs we do across Bolton.

FAQ

Questions homeowners ask about projects like this.

How much does a full bathroom installation cost in Bolton?

This complete rip-out and refit came in at £3,500 fixed. Most full bathroom installations we do around Bolton land in the £3,000–£6,500 range depending on size and spec. Itemised fixed quote before we start — the price agreed is the price paid.

How long does a bathroom refit take?

This one took four days including the full strip-out. Typical range is 4–7 days; we agree the window in writing and the review above tells you how we treat your house in between.

Can I use the bathroom during the refit?

There's a gap of a couple of days between strip-out and second fix where the room is out of action — we sequence to keep it as short as possible and always tell you exactly which days those will be.

Do you supply the suite or can I choose my own?

Either. We can measure, source and supply everything (as here), or fit a suite you've already bought. We'll tell you straight if something you've picked won't wear well.
