Who we are

We're Liam, Ryan and Paul.

Two brothers and an uncle. A qualified electrician, a qualified bricklayer and a master joiner. Three trades, one family business — built because we were fed up watching mates get let down by the industry.

Our story

Built because nobody else was doing it properly.

Wolsten was set up out of pure frustration. Friends and family kept getting let down by builders — quoted one thing, charged another; promised one date, turning up six weeks late; and walking off site leaving it like a bomb had hit it. We knew what good looked like, and we knew the trade could do better.

So we did something about it. Three of us — Liam, Ryan and Paul — pooled three different trades, a shared family name, and a simple promise: deliver on every word, leave every site spotless, and treat every house like our own. That's the company we built.

"We started Wolsten because we'd rather lose a job than cut a corner. That's the only way to do this work and still sleep at night." — Liam, Ryan & Paul
Meet the team

Three of us. Three trades. Every job covered in-house.

You'll meet at least one of us at the survey, and one of us will be on your site every day of the build. We don't sub-contract the relationship.

Liam — Wolsten

Liam

Co-founder · Project Lead · Qualified Electrician

Liam is the customer-facing side of Wolsten. He runs the surveys, writes the quotes, and project-manages the bigger jobs. A fully qualified electrician by trade, he went on to become a certified electric-vehicle charge-point installer and has fitted them across the UK.

Outside of work, Liam competed as a junior GB powerlifter — the same discipline and obsession with technique that goes into every quote he writes.

"If it's not right, we don't invoice it. The clue's in the family name on the side of the van."

Ryan — Wolsten

Ryan

Co-founder · Site Lead · Qualified Bricklayer

Ryan is the on-site backbone. A fully qualified and time-served bricklayer, he went on to specialise in drylining — working on some of Manchester's biggest builds over the past decade. More recently he's developed a real passion for landscaping, particularly Indian stone paving where the precision and patience really show.

When he's not on site, Ryan competes in strongman competitions across the North of England. Same work ethic, different uniform.

"Whether it's a wall, a patio or a tonne of stone over my head — pick it up, place it right, do it once."

Paul — Wolsten

Paul

Co-founder · Trades Lead · Master Joiner

Paul is the most experienced hand on the team. He started life as a cabinet maker and went on to work as a joiner all over the world — including big-name commercial sites like Thorpe Park and major new-build apartment complexes — alongside countless domestic loft and garage conversions.

There genuinely isn't much in construction Paul hasn't done. The quality bar on every finish detail comes from him.

"You can see a corner being cut from across the room. We don't cut them."

What family-run actually means

"Family-run" gets thrown around. Here's what it means for you.

Four concrete things — not just a marketing phrase.

📞

You speak to a founder.

Not a receptionist, not a call centre, not a junior on their first week. Call us and you get Liam, Ryan or Paul.

🏠

Decisions made over the kitchen table.

No boardroom approval processes. If something changes mid-build, the three of us talk it through and call you the same day.

👨‍👨‍👦

Same name on every job.

It's our family name on the van and on the invoice. We physically can't afford to do shoddy work — there's nowhere to hide.

🛠️

One of us on site, every day.

Not a foreman we've hired. One of the three founders is on your job, hands-on, from day one to handover.

Where we work

Bolton lads. North West sites.

We're based in Westhoughton, Bolton and we work across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and the wider North West. Most of our jobs are within a 45-minute drive — close enough that we know the local planning quirks, close enough that we can pop back after handover if anything needs a second look.

Recent work

Three recent jobs we're proud of.

A loft, a garage, a garden. Different projects, same standard.
