How much does artificial grass cost?

The cost of an artificial lawn comes down to three things: the size of the area, the grade of grass you choose, and the groundwork needed to build a solid, free-draining base. A proper installation isn't just grass rolled onto soil — the existing surface is dug out and replaced with a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base and a sharp sand laying course, which is what keeps your lawn flat, firm and draining for years.

That's why we show two prices: a sub-base installation figure (the groundwork on its own) and a supply & fit figure (the complete job, including your chosen grass). Smaller lawns cost more per square metre because fixed costs like skips and plant hire don't shrink with the area.

Artificial grass calculator FAQs

How much does artificial grass cost to install?

Installed artificial grass typically works out from around £70–£135 per square metre depending on the grass grade and the size of the area, including a full MOT Type 1 sub-base, weed membrane, sharp sand laying course, edging and labour. Smaller jobs cost more per m² because of fixed costs like skips and plant hire. Use the calculator above for an instant guide price.

What is the difference between 20mm, 30mm and 40mm artificial grass?

The number refers to the pile height. 20mm is a budget, hard-wearing grass ideal for high-traffic areas; 30mm mid-range is the most popular all-round choice; 40mm premium gives the lushest, most natural garden-lawn look.

Do I need a sub-base for artificial grass?

Yes. A proper installation needs the existing surface dug out and replaced with a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base and a sharp sand laying course. This is what stops the grass sinking, rippling or holding water. We offer a sub-base-only price as well as full supply and fit.

How long does artificial grass last?

A quality artificial lawn that is properly installed on a compacted sub-base will typically last 10–15+ years with minimal maintenance.

Do you install artificial grass in Bolton and the North West?
